RHINOPLASTY (Nose Job Surgery)

Information: Rhinoplasty (Nose Job Surgery) is a surgical procedure that reshapes or resizes the nose. It can correct a variety of concerns, including a visible bump on the nasal bridge, a droopy or enlarged nasal tip, a nose that's off-centre or crooked, or asymmetry due to a previous injury.

Nose job surgery is the process of reforming the nose.
With nose job surgery, procedures like nose reduction, nose enlargement, and nasal tip lift, nasal bone removal are carried out.

The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and the duration of nose aesthetics varies between 1-2 hours including operation time, anaesthesia, and an awakening time.
After nose job surgery, patients can usually be sent home on the same day and go to work after a few days with the control and knowledge of their surgeon.

Why is communication with the doctor in rhinoplasty surgery very important?

Communication between patients and plastic surgeons plays an important role in the success and progress of the surgery.
The planning process will start after you discuss with your surgeon what you expect from nose job surgery and you are comprehensively informed. Another point to be noted here is that if the nasal skin is thick, the nose job surgery is performed to ensure that most natural result is achieved.

Before Nose Job Surgery:

General or local anaesthesia is used during nose aesthetic surgery, however, plastic surgeons mostly prefer to perform such operations under general anaesthesia. Before the surgery on your consultation, previous operations, any medication used, allergy or breathing difficulty and the use of tobacco (smoking, etc.) should be told to the surgeon, who will perform your surgery. Any expectation and concern must be specified before the procedure. Your doctor may recommend you stop certain medicines and tobacco use before surgery.

How does nose aesthetic surgery (Rhinoplasty) perform?

The duration of the operation is between 1-2 hours including anaesthesia and awakening time. During the procedure, the operation starts with the incisions made through the nostrils; after correcting the nasal tip and internal problems, if any, tampons, if needed, are placed in the nostrils and additionally a plaster splint is placed on the back of the nose; and the operation is terminated. Eyelids are closed with a patch on the first day to minimize swelling and bruising on the eyelids. After the doctor’s check-up, the patient may be sent home on the same day after the surgery.

After the nose job surgery, you may feel swelling, nasal pain, headache, muscle aches, weakness. These effects can be minimized by the medication, your doctor will give. According to the structure of the patients, bruising and swelling around the eyes may be experienced, even on rare occasions. In the first few days, it is recommended to sleep with a few pillows on the back, except for necessities. Because of the tampons, it might be difficult to breathe at the beginning that's why patients should breathe through the mouth. By taking deep breaths while mouth open, it is possible to get rid of the sense of sneezing. Even if these tampons are removed, breathing problems may be experienced between 2-4 months.

Complications after nose job surgery:

When the surgery is done by an experienced surgeon, surgery risks will be lower. However, there is still a risk to a certain extent, because every surgical operation has a certain risk. These risks include infection, inflammation, nasal bleeding, anaesthesia-related risks, and very thin vascularization of the nose. There are no visible scars unless the procedure is performed to reduce the nostrils. Because the surgery is performed inside the nose. In open nose job operations, there will be a scar mark in the lower part of the nose, so the patient will not experience any scar marks because the techniques used by aesthetic surgeons are usually closed nose surgery techniques.

There is always a risk after the nose job surgery, i.e. one in ten patients have a second operation risk, even on the most competent hands. The second nose surgery is always simpler than the first one.
